Bastards of Erebus #3-Arael Goes Bonkers

Last week I had mentioned how the group seemed to grow restless playing the adventure path. To resolve this problem, I took the party through an adventure I planned out. I’m more used to home brew campaigns, since that’s basically all I’ve ever played. Even in the odd shift of events, it ended up being a very productive night, especially considering we introduced a new player to the group. He’s played lots of RPG’s and is also a Magic judge, so we knew that he’d be able to handle whatever we threw at him.

Our group newbie wanted to fill a gap in the party, so he built a trap finding rogue. On top of that, I let him be a Vishkanya, which is basically a poisonous lizard-like person. Since Vishkanya have poisonous saliva, the first thing I had to say was “if you use this to roofie someone, I’m changing your alignment.”

I’ve played enough evil-ish games to really hate them. Now, I’m all puppies and rainbows and unicorns-well, maybe not unicorns after watching Deadpool.

I started this session by finishing the battle rescuing Arael. He’s the guy who’s leading this tiny resistance that is trying to save Westcrown from the people who are currently ruling it. After being rescued, however, I decided that Arael was a little too broken inside to really lead a resistance. Luckily, he realized he bit off a bit more than he could chew.

Arael did point out that one of the party’s thief friends had been captured and in turn enslaved by the current ruling powers that be. They ended up finding him down in the slums of Westcrown, where numerous battles and now reclamation projects were taking place. The rogue named That (yes, That), was shackled by chains  with a group of other slaves. Even with all the guards and the overlord, who after interrogating for half an hour or so (we role played the whole thing. It went in circles.), the party found he was just another guy trying to make an honest buck … through being forced to do things like enforce slavery. When will tyrants learn that slavery just doesn’t work?

The party, now with their new (old) friend, decided to try and sack a cache of gold in the slums that Westcrown has been taking from the dwindling number of Tieflings still living there. Upon approaching the building, the group was ambushed by a group of Tiefling thugs that had a short temper (and less than impressive skills with a crossbow.) We left the game there, until next time!
